HSK1 is designed for students who have never studied Mandarin before. You will leave this course able to engage in surface-level conversation with Mandarin speakers. This will show that you have made an effort with Mandarin, which will smooth conversation and relations with clients in China.

• Course Content:

  • 16 hours of group lessons (8 x 2-hour lessons, once a week)

  • 4 hours of 1:1 tutorials

• Expected Outcomes:

  • Recognise 300 words and read 246 characters.

  • ​Competently create a good impression in China with basic, polite conversation

  • Correct pronunciation of all place names you are likely to visit

  • Basic dinner table conversations, ability to navigate a Chinese menu and understanding of dinner etiquette

• Exam Format:

  • Listening MCQ

  • Reading MCQ

  • No writing component

  • No speaking component

• Lesson Format: Zoom, maximum 8 students

• Schedule: 

  • Mondays 7pm-9pm for 8 weeks

  • Bookable 1:1 tutorial for 60 minutes every 2 weeks.

• Exam Venue: In person at one of multiple venues across the UK. There is one exam per month. Sherwood Clarke handles the examination admin.
